Theobald of Bec reconciles Stephen of England and Matilda, ending "The Anarchy" and allowing Matilda's son Henry of Anjou to succeed as king (in 1154). The Angevin dynasty takes control of Gascony and Guyenne. Andronicus Comnenus is imprisoned for conspiring against Byzantine emperor Manuel I Comnenus.
