181st Street (IND Eighth Avenue Line station)

181st Street (IND Eighth Avenue Line station)

Manhattan IND Eighth Avenue Line 1932

181st Street, located on Fort Washington Avenue, about 200 yards (meters) and 190th Street, has two tracks and two side platforms. The station is deep below the surface due to the very high hills of Washington Heights. Because of this there are escalators leading to 181st Street from the south end of the station and is a bank of elevators to Fort Washington Avenue near Bennet Park, with an additional exit through the side of the hill leading to Bennett Avenue at the north end. The elevators can be used by pedestrians going between Bennett and Fort Washington Avenues without paying a fare.
