79th Regiment of Foot

There were three regiments in the British Army that were numbered the 79th Foot. These were:

79th Regiment of Foot -- Was formed in 1757. It moved to India in 1758 and saw service in the 2nd Carnatic War. In 1762 the regiment took part in the successful invasion of Manila, capital of the Spanish-controlled Philippines. It returned home the following year where it was disbanded.
79th Regiment of Foot (Royal Liverpool Volunteers) -- Saw service in the West Indies during the American Revolution.
79th (The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders( Regiment of Foot -- Took part in many notable actions, including at the battles of Waterloo and Alma. It became The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders on 1 July 1881.
