A3 freeway (Romania)
The project of the A3 motorway is rather new comparing to the other infrastructure projects in Romania. A3 will have almost the same traject as the DN1 road which became insufficient due to the traffic growing between Bucharest and Transylvania. The construction of Braşov - Borş section (415 km) began in june 2004. The contract has been assigned by the Romanian government directly (without any offer competiton) to the american company Bechtel; that caused some political problems in the Parliament and the miscontent of the European Union. Nevertheless, there is an urging need for an alternative at DN1 road, the most congested in Romania.
Today, the A3 (Transylvannia motorway) is the largest infrastructure project in Europe.
