Anthony is a town located in El Paso County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,850.

Geography


Anthony is located at 31°59'41" North, 106°35'51" West (31.994626, -106.597612).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 16.9 km² (6.5 mi²). 16.8 km² (6.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 3,850 people, 684 households, and 577 families residing in the town. The population density is 228.7/km² (592.5/mi²). There are 722 housing units at an average density of 42.9/km² (111.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 77.79% White, 3.87% African American, 1.32% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 14.81% from other races, and 1.97% from two or more races. 82.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 684 households out of which 50.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.2% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.5% are non-families. 14.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.47 and the average family size is 3.84.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 12.7% from 18 to 24, 41.9% from 25 to 44, 18.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 212.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 261.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $26,295, and the median income for a family is $28,295. Males have a median income of $21,667 versus $17,273 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,568. 25.9% of the population and 22.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 34.4% of those under the age of 18 and 29.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
