Appel reaction

Appel reaction

The Appel reaction is a method to convert alcohols into halogenated compounds.
The reagents used are Triphenylphosphine and a haloform (Chloroforme or Bromoforme).
The reaction is based, like nearly all reactions containing phosphines and oxygen compounds (For example the Mitsunobu reaction), on the eliberation of triphenylphosphine oxide.
