Bassenthwaite Lake

Bassenthwaite Lake

Bassenthwaite Lake is located in the Lake District in England. It is the only lake in the Lake District, all the others being waters (eg Derwent Water, Ullswater) or meres (eg Thirlmere, Buttermere). It is fed by, and drains into, the River Derwent. The lake lies at the foot of Skiddaw and Dodd Wood, near the town of Keswick.

The lake is about 6 kilometres long by 600 to 1000 metres wide.

The lake is crossed where the Derwent leaves it by Ouse Bridge, on the road between the Castle Inn and Cockermouth/Keswick.
