Beam

  • A beam of light is a light ray.
  • The beam in nautical terminology refers to the most extreme width (or breadth) of a vessel, or a point alongside the ship at the mid-point of its length. The latter usage also appears in the expression "abeam".
  • A beam is a construction element in buildings.
  • In musical notation, a beam is one or more lines used to connect multiple consecutive eighth notes, sixteenth notes, etc. Beams usually connect notes of the same duration, but in general they may connect any combination of notes usually written with flags.
  • A BEAM robot is an automatically moving machine based on analog electronics.
  • BEAM is an acronym meaning "Basic Enterprise Architecture Methodology", a procedure used for building larger databases or information systems.
