Bushwick
Bushwick is a place in the borough of Brooklyn, New York, USA. It was founded in 1661 by Governor Peter Stuyvesant as Boswijck. It became a part of Brooklyn in 1854. Bushwick was the site of some of the earliest settlement in what is now Brooklyn, before the middle of the 17th century. Bushwick was absorbed by Brooklyn in 1854. Now it is a predominantly Hispanic and Black neighborhood bordered on the north by Williamsburg, which was originally separated off from Bushwick, by Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Ridgewood, Queens. Recent real estate development growing out of the currently trendy Williamsburg has tried to rechristen western portions of Bushwick "East Williamsburg," to the amusement and skepticism of Bushwick residents. The Myrtle Ave./Wyckoff Ave. bus and subway hub is currently being renovated into a state of the art transportation hub, expected completion, early 2005
