Copyright law of the European Union
The European Union has made various European Union directives on copyright law which member states are obliged to implement. The EUCD directive of May 22, 2001 has been controversial for similar reasons to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the United States. Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy and the United Kingdom have implemented the Directive to date. An additional Directive, the IP-Enforcement Directive, makes the situation even worse: welcomed by the music and film industries, it threatens online liberties as well as consumer interests.
