Department of Human Resources & Skills Development (Canada)

The Department of Human Resources and Skills Development, also referred to as Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, is the department of the government of Canada with responsibility for providing Canadians with the resources and skills needed for the workplace and their community.

HRSDC supports employers, employees, people receiving Employment Insurance, students and those who need focused support to participate in the workplace. HRSDC also supports the needs of the homeless and the national Canada Student Loans program.

HRSDC was created in December 2003 when Human Resources Development Canada was reorganized into two separate departments. As of 2005, legislative changes to legally establish a Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and Department of Social Development and repeal the Department of Human Resources Development have yet to be officially enacted.
