Dipole Moment (band)
Dipole Moment was a punk/emo trio from Downers Grove, Illinois, playing from 1992-94 as part of the western suburban scene best known for bands like Cap'n Jazz, Gauge and Friction. The band was formed in the summer of 1992 when Christian Goodwillie and Jeff Giba, who were both learning guitar and trying to form a punk band, met guitarist Brady Carlson and decided to form a trio. With that, Goodwillie switched to bass and Giba switched to drums. The band spent the next year recording frequently although most of their recordings went unreleased. The entire result of their highly prolific output consists of only one compilation track and a vinyl EP on a label run by 42 Loads' singer, Steven Cooling. The three song "Carolinaland" EP blended Hüsker Dü-style melodic punk rock with Simple Machines-esque pop, and got a fair review in Maximum Rock and Roll (the reviewer said the record was "pretty wussed out, but I like it.") Dipole Moment called it quits in 1994 as the three members went off to college. They worked together again as members of Streetcar, and Goodwillie and Giba played together in Kleenex Girl Wonder, while Carlson went on to form another indie-rock trio, Jumping Bomb Angel.
