Doxbridge
Doxbridge is a portmanteau word referring to the Universities of Durham, Oxford and Cambridge, the three oldest chartered universities in England. The term is not commonly heard. Usually the word Oxbridge is used, which refers to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge only. These have more in common with each other than with Durham, which is the youngest of the three by several hundred years, although such features as a collegiate structure do link Durham to the two older institutions. The term Doxbridge is often associated with a sporting event held every year, in which Durham, Oxford and Cambridge colleges compete against each other.
