East Bank, West Virginia

East Bank is a town located in Kanawha County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 933.

Geography


East Bank is located at 38°13'1" North, 81°26'39" West (38.217023, -81.444112).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 933 people, 373 households, and 276 families residing in the town. The population density is 750.5/km² (1,958.0/mi²). There are 415 housing units at an average density of 333.8/km² (870.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.82% White, 0.96% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.11% from two or more races. 0.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 373 households out of which 27.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% are married couples living together, 14.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.0% are non-families. 23.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the town the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 88.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $35,341, and the median income for a family is $39,545. Males have a median income of $35,521 versus $22,045 for females. The per capita income for the town is $18,419. 12.0% of the population and 9.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 18.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
