Exy
Exy, or Exi was the nickname used by many of the Hamburg fans of the Beatles during the earliest years of their career. The Exies took their name from the existentialist movement, and were themselves influenced by its chief proponents of the time, Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. The Exies had a distinct fashion style which was to influence the Beatles greatly, particularly as regards their famous "moptop" hair-styles. Important members of the movement in the history of the Beatles include Astrid Kirchherr (a photographer who was engaged to original Beatles bass player Stuart Sutcliffe), Klaus Voormann, and Jurgen Vollmer. Much of the early days of the Beatles is recorded in Kirchherr's photographs of the band.
Exy (also spelt exxy) is an Australian slang term, a diminutive form of expensive.
