Far Hills is a borough located in Somerset County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 859.

Geography


Far Hills is located at 40°41'13" North, 74°38'0" West (40.686872, -74.633400).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 12.7 km² (4.9 mi²). 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.22% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 859 people, 368 households, and 253 families residing in the borough. The population density is 68.2/km² (176.8/mi²). There are 386 housing units at an average density of 30.7/km² (79.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.04% White, 0.81% African American, 0.12% Native American, 2.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 3.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 368 households out of which 22.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.76.

In the borough the population is spread out with 18.4% under the age of 18, 3.5% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 32.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $112,817, and the median income for a family is $149,095. Males have a median income of $90,000 versus $46,607 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $81,535. 2.5% of the population and 0.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.8% of those under the age of 18 and 1.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
