Ger Loughnane

Gerard (Ger) Loughnane (born 1954) is a former hurler and hurling coach for County Clare.

Loghnane was born in County Clare in 1958. He play club hurling with his local Feakle Club, as well as St Patrick’s in Dublin. He made his senior county début for Clare in 1972 and starred in the teams which won the GAA National League in 1977 and 1978, having lost the 1976 final in a replay. He won three Railway Cup medals with Munster (1976, 1978 and 1981) and was the first Clareman to win an All-Star award, in 1974, an honour he again achieved in 1977. Although a gifted hurler, Loghnane's greatest achievements have been as a manager, steering Clare to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship title of 1995, the county’s first championship since 1914. The team repeated that success in 1997. An outspoken and often controversial figure, Loughnane’s achievements have given him cult status in his native county. He is a regular pundit on RTÉ's Gaelic Games programme, The Sunday Game.
