Gerald J. Comeau
Gerald J. Comeau (born February 1 1946) is a Canadian parliamentarian. Comeau, an accountant by training, was elected to the Canadian House of Commons as part of the Progressive Conservative sweep in the 1984 Canadian election. He was the Member of Parliament for South West Nova, Nova Scotia. Comeau was a government backbencher throughout his term and was defeated in the 1988 Canadian election due, in part, to the unpopularity of the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement in Atlantic Canada. In 1990 he was appointed to the Senate on the advice of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and now sits as a Conservative having been a Progressive Conservative until February 2004. Comeau is a member of Nova Scotia's Acadian minority.
