Goran Jelisic

Goran Jelisić (Serbian Cyrillic Горан Јелисић), indicted Serb war criminal from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Jelisić was born on June 7, 1968 in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He came to Brčko after completing high school, to work as a machinery technician. During May 1992, Jelisić held a position at the Luka camp near Brčko.

Jelisić was arrested in 1998 and tried in connection with the sytematic killings, beatings and other mistreatment of Bosnian Muslim and Croat men and a few women at the Luka camp near Brčko in 1992. Hundreds of detainees were kept in inhumane conditions under armed guard. Serb forces selected detainees for interrogation and often shot and killed them.

In 1999, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia sentenced him to 40 years imprisonment for crimes against humanity, he was acquitted of charges of genocide. The same sentence was confirmed by the appeals chamber.
