Gyaru-moji
Gyaru-moji or girl's-alphabet is a style of writing popular amongst Japanese school girls or kyo-gyaru, as they are known. this unique style of writing the Japanese alphabets of hiragana and katakana is incomprehsnible to adults. for this reason the style became popular as girls could write messages to their friends when travelling on busy inner-city trains without feeling those around them were watching. gyaru-moji is distinguished from standard japanese through being much more rounded and flowing. the normal technique is to take the separate strokes required to write each character of the japanese alphabet, and then instead of writing the strokes on top of one another, write them side-by-side creating a long continuous line. other popular uses of gyaru-moji can now be seen with girls writing messages on napkins in cafes and restaurants and then taking a picture with their cell-phones and sending a picture of the message to a friend. the style has unfortunately been met with criticism from adults as some girls are now using the writing in school work and OLs (office ladies) are now adopting the style in the workplace.
