Ham Hill

Ham Hill is a country park to the west of Yeovil, Somerset, England. The hill is the site of old quarry workings for hamstone, the distinctive reddish/golden/yellow building stone that has been used for many local (and some not so local) buildings, such as Sherborne Abbey.

The site was also home to a large Iron Age hill fort and the hand-made earthwork fortifications are still visible around the majority of the site.

The Hill is part of ridge of sandstone rock that is elevated above the lower lying clay vales and Somerset Levels surrounding. The Roman road the Fosse Way travels from East to West along the foot of the hill on the Way from Bath to the coast near Lyme Regis.

The summit of the hill is crowned by a war memorial to the dead of the nearby village of Odcombe killed during World war I
