Hangul Jamo

Hangul Jamo

The basic Hangul Jamo (alphabet) consists of 14 consonants (Ja-eum) and 10 vowels (Mo-eum). One Hangul character is composed of a leading consonant (cho-sung), followed by a vowel (joong-sung), and finally an optional consonant (jong-sung). Cho-sung can be one of the 14 basic consonants or 5 'double consonants' which is the same consonant repeated. Joong-sung can be one of the 10 basic vowels or one of the 11 'composite vowels'. Jong-sung is omitted in some characters and can be one of the 14 basic consonants, 2 double consonants or 11 composite consonants.
