Hex map
A Hex map, or hexagonal map is often used in
tactical board games. The map is subdivided in small
hexagons of identical size. (See diagram 1.)
A great advantage of a hex map over a grid map is
that the distance from one cell to the next is the
same in all directions, which made them a favourite
