HK VP70The VP70 is a 9mm, 18-round, double action, semiautomatic/three-round burst capable polymer frame pistol manufactured by German arms firm Heckler und Koch GmbH. It holds the special title of 'Original Polymer Frame Handgun', much to the dismay of Glock fans. The polymers used in its construction make the weapon weigh 820 grams unloaded, lighter than most other metal pistols of the time. The trademark of this weapon, however, is the combination Stock/Holster that is compatible with the Military version of the VP70. The pistol itself is able to be stored in the stock while not in use, and the stock also allows the pistol to be fired three-round burst through a fire selector switch mounted near the backstrap. Cyclic RPM for three-round burst is a insane 2200rpm. The handgun comes in two varieties. The 'Z' (Zivilversion) Variant is the civilian version and not capable of being fired burst, and the 'M' (Military) Variant that is burst capable. The pistol first entered production in 1970, and ceased production in 1989. Additionally, 400 units were made that could accept the 9x21mm IMI ammunition, the handgun itself is believed to have been sold in the United States. This next-gen pistol (for its time) had some significant innovations, but its recoil and heavy trigger made firing uncomfortable, which made it somewhat unpopular with the military and civilian users.

VP70 in Video GamesLeon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil uses the VP70 as his custom handgun in Resident Evil 2, and he can purchase it as a unlockable weapon in Resident Evil 4 where it goes by the alias 'Matilda'.
