HOPSAN

HOPSAN

HOPSAN is a simulation tool for hydraulic power systems. It has been developed at Linköping University since 1977. Originally developed for simulation of fluid power systems, it has also been adopted for other domains such as electric power, flight dynamics, and vehicle dynamics. It uses bi-directional delay lines (or transmission line elements, TLM) to connect different components.

HOPSAN can be used in co-simualation under Simulink

In addition to the simulation capability it also has features for simulation based optimization. This uses the COMPLEX direct search optimization method or a genetic algotithm (GA). It also has features for frequency analysis and transfer function analysis, on simulated results.

HOPSAN has a graphical grag and drop user interface written in Visual Basic.

Component models are written as FORTRAN subroutines. There is a separate tool, COMPGEN, written in Mathematica that can be used to generate component models in a straightforward way.
