Irakli Okruashvili

Irakli Okhruashvili (1973 -) is a Georgian lawyer, politician, and Defence Minister of Georgia.
Irakli Okhruashvili was born in Tskhinvali in 1973. He graduated from Tbilisi State University, Faculty of International Law and Relations and than worked as a lawyer.
Mr. Okhruashvili served as the Deputy Minister of Justice in 2000-2001. He joined Mikhail Saakashvili's United National Movement and was elected as a member of Tbilisi Sakrebulo in 2002. After the Rose Revolution, he was appointed the Person Authorized (governor) of the President of Georgia in Shida Kartli in November 2003 and established strong anti-corruption and anti-smuggling measures in the region.

He served as the Prosecutor General in November 2003-May 2004 and was appointed Inferior Minister in May 2004. In December, 2004 he was moved top the post of Defence Minister of Georgia.

Mr. Okhruashvili plays a significant role in ongoing reforms of police and armed forces and remains one of the most active members of President Mikhail Saakashvili’s political team.
