Jaclyn VictorJaclyn a/p Joshua Thanaraj Victor (born December 4 1978) is the winner of the first season of Malaysian Idol and has since become a very successful singer. Jaclyn Victor, or otherwise widely known as Jac, is the first to gain the title of Malaysian Idol, a singing competition that was spawned from the Idol series that started off as Pop Idol in Britain. Jac, has been through many obstacles in life before achieving her fame. Her dad had passed away when she was just nine years old and her house-wife mother, Maggie Victor had to work three jobs to put food on the table for Jaclyn and her three younger brothers. At 18, she started singing at clubs, hotel lounges and gigs to support her family. The journeyIn 2004, along with ten thousand others, Jac auditioned for Malaysian Idol. Impressed by her strong voice and personality, the panel of judges put her through to the next round. Upon landing a final thirty-third spot, Jac perfomed live, garnering praises from the judges with her superb rendition of Superwoman. Her perfomance was received very well by Malaysians as she accumulated the most votes that evening being the seventh person to acquire a spot in the top twelve. In the first spectacular, the theme for the week was Song from your Pop Idol. Jac chose a song from her own language, titled Keliru. Her articulation of the song touched the hearts of viewers, putting her thorugh the next round. The second theme was Song from your Classic Idol. Jac’s choice was When I Fall In Love. The judges did not only tell her she was an excellent singer after this performance, but also that she was sweet and precious. “I was ready to tell you something bad, but I just can’t. That was easily the best performance ever on Malaysian Idol and it set a new standard for everyone else”, said Paul Moss, one of the Malaysian Idol judges. After another double elimination, Jac was back next week with an uplifting performance of her Song from the 80s, Chaka Khan’s I Feel For You. That same week, the favorite to win started to have competition as other competitors, Nikki and Dina started to shine. But Jac was not threatened one bit by her new competition. She was actually the only one who did brilliantly in the Rock Show with her rendition of Sweet Child O’ Mine. The judges thanked her for saving the night. Down to only six contestants, Jac along with her fellow idols, Nikki, Dina, Victor, Andrew and Saipul, she had to bring it on. R&B night was one of the greatest. Jac performed an effortless Lady Marmelade. On the results show, Jac found herself in the bottom two for the first time with Nikki, who performed Emotion. In tears, Jac summoned her courage and and braved through the night, surviving the elimination. After two other great weeks of performances and another uncalled for trip in the bottom two, Jac had made the final three. Her chances only improved after giving a flawless performance of Alicia Keys' If I Ain’t Got You. Jac successfully played with the melody of the song, making it her own. Jac finally won the competition, earning 76% of the audience vote in the final contest against Dina Nadzir. As the newly-crowned Malaysian Idol, Jac performed Gemilang as the crowd cheers her victory. DiscographyExternal links |
