Jean Boudin

Jean Boudin

Jean Boudin (1530-1596) was a French poet and writer most famous for his 1576 treatise Six livres de la République, which denounced royal absolutism, instead defining the mutual responsibilities of both king and his people.

Boudin is largely known in political circles today for his early views against slavery and for his conceptualization of sovereignty which defined French colonial rule into the modern era.
