Jerry Vines
Jerry Vines is the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida. Vines is most known for his statement at the 2002 Southern Baptist Convention that "Christianity was founded by the virgin-born Jesus Christ. Islam was founded by Mohammed, a demon-possessed pedophile who had 12 wives, and his last one was a 9-year-old girl." [1] His comments stirred a brief national debate on Islamophobia and the demonization of Islam in relation to the war on terrorism. He defended his comments by stating that he got information about the accusations from the Qur'an.
