Johan Helmich Roman
Johan Helmich Roman (October 26, 1694 - November 20, 1758) was one of the most important composers of the Baroque era in Sweden. He is often referred to as "the father of Swedish music" or "the Swedish Handel". Probably most famous of his works is the so-called Drottningholm music (originally titled "Bilägersmusiquen"), a suite of twenty-four movements, written for the wedding of Adolf Frederick of Sweden and Louisa Ulrika of Prussia. Other pieces written by Roman is the Suite D major, sometimes referred to as the "Shorter Drottningholm music", which is an expression coined by swedish conductor Claude M Génetay (1917-1992), the suite of Sjukmans Musiquen and the Italian-inspired Cantata "Piante amiche".
