John Watkins
John Watkins is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, presently holding the seat of Ryde. He was originally elected to the Assembly in 1995 when he won the previously safe conservative seat of Gladesville, before switching to the new seat of Ryde in 1999 when electral boundaries were redrawn. He is also a member of the Labor Government in that state, holding the cabinet position of Transport Minister as of January 2005, who is responsible for New South Wales' public transport services. Prior ministerial posts for Watkins have included Minister of Police (2003-2005), Minister of Education (2001-2003) and Minister of Fair Trading and Sports (1999-2001). Prior to becoming a politician he was an school teacher at the prestigious St. Joseph's College in Hunter's Hill.
