Join My Cult

Join My Cult

A subversive, satirical novel released by New Falcon press (publisher of some noteable counter-culture authors such Robert Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary, and Aleister_Crowley).

Join My Cult focuses around a group of suburban kids who begin experimenting with shamanism and hallucinogens, who quickly realize they're not in Kansas anymore. It details the initial plunge or initiation experienced by the group of kids. Curcio utilizes a lot of hypnotic techniques within the text to allow for that experience to come firsthand to the reader.

The first edition was published in 2004, written by James Curcio.

It's unclear how much of the story is fictitious. One of the main characters is called Agent 139 who in the book is known for spreading a "viral" meme which ultimately leads to the dissolution of the capitolistic system. This name, and other agent "numbers," have been taken on by various memebearers of a dis-organization which has reportadly been in operation since 1995.

Ethical Issues

In june of 2004 an informal group of parents and ministers called Concerned Christian Parents became concerned when one of their members received a copy of a press release for Join My Cult! and a parent provided a pre release PDF copy of the book to the group. They accused James Curcio of being one of the first people "seduced into The Order of the Hidden Path (OHP)" proportedly then headquartered in suburban Philadelphia.
they claimed
"This group is known to have actively sought out young Christians to undermine their Faith. They advocate drug use, orgiastic/homosexual activity, cross dressing, body piercing, scarification, branding and other perversions associated with the hardcore "Goth" lifestyle that their senior membership is obsessed with."

while this was never confirmed the Join My Cult! site does contain a section of essays on Spirituality, Social Sustainability, Initiation, Creative Mythology, myth, ritual, magick, and metaphor.
