Landes
Landes is a département in southern France.
History Historically, Landes was part of Gascony. It was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from parts of the provinces of Guyenne and Gascony.
Geography Landes is part of the current region of Aquitaine and is surrounded by the departments of Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, as well as the Atlantic Ocean on the west.

Landes is also the name of a commune in the Charente-Maritime département, in France.
