Liddy Holloway

Liddy Holloway

Liddy Holloway (1947December 29, 2004) was born in Wellington, New Zealand. The daughter of a cabinet minister, Holloway (who had originally carved out a living as a journalist) had a lengthy career in theater but was best known in her country for her 1992-1998 lead role as Alex McKenna on the popular soap opera Shortland Street. Holloway was also a writer for the series. Holloway moved to Los Angeles briefly in 1990 to give Hollywood a try, but quickly returned to the native land she had so missed in her absence. Holloway did eventually garner international attention for her recurring role as Hercules' mother on the syndicated adventure series, , which filmed in New Zealand for much of the 1990s.

Holloway was the first person to champion making the book The Whale Rider into a feature film. Holloway fought with the Film Commission because she wanted a writing credit for her work on the 2002 feature.

On December 29, 2004 she lost a long battle with liver cancer, leaving behind 3 children, including actor and musician Joel Tebeck, who appeared with her on Shortland Street.
