This is a list of islands in the world ordered by area. It includes all islands with an area greater than 1,200 square miles or 3,000 km². For comparison, continental land masses are also shown.

This section of the list is not comprehensive; it shows how the areas of other large islands compare. Note: Australia, at 7,600,000 kmē, is generally considered to be a continental landmass, rather than an island. If however one does count Australia among the islands it, not Greenland, would be the largest in the world.
