LMS Class 4P 2-6-4T (1945)

Class 4MT no. 42085 at Haverthwaite on 31st March 2005. This locomotive is one of two survivors of its class, both of which are preserved on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.
The LMS Class 4P 2-6-4T (1945) steam locomotives were designed by Charles E. Fairburn for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). 383 of these locomotives were built between 1945-1951, numbered in the range 42030-42299, 42425-42494.

This design was based on the earlier Stanier LMS Class 4P 2-6-4T (1935) built from 1935-1943. It was also the basis for the later British Rail Standard Class 4 tank. Under the BR system, these locomotives were classified as Class 4MT.

Two locomotives, nos. 42073 and 42085, survive in preservation on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.
