Lola Bobesco
Lola Bobesco (9 August 1921, Craiova, Romania - 4 September 2003, Spa, Belgium) was a Belgian violinist of Romanian origin. She began her carriere as a wonder-child, giving her first recital at the age of 6 toghether with her father. She gained her first prize at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1934. She became known internationally after obtaining the seventh prize at the Eugène Ysaye contest, in 1937. She founded in 1958 the chamber orchestra of Wallonia. She was also a professor at the Bruxelles Conservatoire and was part of the jury of the "Queen Elizabeth contest" in 1971 and 1993. She recorded sonates of Beethoven, Fauré, Brahms, Franck and Debussy and also baroque music.
