Luise Caroline, Princess of Hesse-Kassel

Luise Caroline, Princess of Hesse-Kassel (28 September, 1789 - 13 March, 1867) was the consort of Friedrich Wilhelm, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and the matriarch of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg.

She was born in the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein to Karl, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel (19 December, 1744 - 17 August, 1836) and Luise, Princess of Denmark and Norway (30 January, 1850 - 12 January, 1831). Her older sister Marie Sophie Friederike of Hesse-Cassel (28 October, 1767 - 21 March, 1852) became Queen consort of Frederick VI of Denmark.

Their paternal grandparents were Frederick II of Hesse-Cassel (14 August, 1720 - 31 October, 1785) and Princess Mary of Great Britain (5 March, 1723 - 14 January, 1772). Mary was a daughter of George II of Great Britain and Caroline of Ansbach.

Their maternal grandparents were Frederick V of Denmark and Louise of Great Britain and Ireland (18 December, 1724 - 19 December, 1851), another daughter of George II of Great Britain and Caroline of Ansbach.

Her son Christian IX of Denmark was named second-in-line to the throne of Christian VIII of Denmark in 1847. He succeeded his childless cousin Frederick VII of Denmark on 15 November, 1863.

Her grandchildren included (among others) Frederick VIII of Denmark, Alexandra of Denmark, George I of Greece and Thyra of Denmark.
