Maida

The Battle of Maida took place on July 6 1806, between the British expeditionary force in Calabria, 5,100 strong under Sir John Stuart, and the French 6,440 strong force under General Raynier. The British fired volleys then charged with the bayonet, and the French, though veterans, failing to withstand the onslaught, broke and fled, losing heavily in the pursuit.
