Man-eating tree
The jungles in Madagascar or possibly in Mindanao Island, (Philippines) are rumored to have a species of tree with a gray trunk and vinelike stems which eats people and other large animals. In 1881, the South Australian Register was first to report a man-eating tree. The newspaper described a Mkodo tribe who sacrificed a woman for the gigantic tree. It may be all fiction, but the vines of this large carnivorous plant are said to swing around and capture people yards away. Another legend is told that Rhode Island's founder, Roger Williams, was buried beneath an old apple tree about 400 years ago. Then, many years later, people thought this man should be given a good burial so they proceeded to dig to locate the body. But nobody could find it!
