Man of the Hour

Man of the Hour

"Man of the Hour" is a song by Pearl Jam written for the movie Big Fish. It was first played to the public on October 22, 2003 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington and released as a single in November of the same year, as Pearl Jam's first release without a label. Although it is played over the end credits of the movie, it is the first track of the soundtrack album.

The wistful song is a young man saying farewell to his father: "The man of the hour's has taken his final bow, 'bye for now". The absence of distortion typical to grunge bands surprised some fans and seemed to signal a new direction for Pearl Jam.

Singer and songwriter Eddie Vedder was nominated for the Best Original Song Golden Globe Award for this track, but lost to Annie Lennox' "Into the West" from The Return of the King.
