Mauer bei Melk

Mauer is a place in the municipality Dunkelsteinerwald, in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria.

History

The designations muri, ad mura, apud mura or the German designations Mour or Mower already are since 11th and 12th century admits. In the year 1083 the village and 1096 the church are mentioned for the first time as establishment. This reminds clearly of wall remainders, probably Roman, which had been noticeable to the medieval settlers. The church and parish Mauer go back into the early settlement history of the Dunkelsteinerwald. - The powerful counts von Formbach created it 1096 and around 1110 to pin the Göttweig transferred.

Economics and infrastructure

The place is a part of the market municipality Dunkelsteinerwald, which maintains a local building with fire department, municipal office and register office in the center. Some farmer yards lend a certain coinage to the place. Since there are only one baker's shop and small individual enterprise, and which are difficult local structure of the municipality, the place orients itself strongly to the neighbour municipality Loosdorf. The local centre was extended only in the latter few decades substantially, by the Kernsiedlung where many recent families a single family house established itself. Buildings
