Maverick Virus

The Maverick Virus, in the Megaman X series of video games, is a computer virus capable of causing Reploids to go Maverick. The virus appears to somehow be airborne in nature without needing to travel through electronics, but the virus is usually contracted by extended contact with an infected reploid. Many unusual properties of the virus exists, such as its strange ability to cause certain reploids to become extremely erratic and homicidal, and other reploids seem to have their personality left intact. The virus also seems to be able to cause a reploid's fighting capabilities to rise. The origin of the virus is unknown, but some claim that the robot, Zero, might be the original carrier of the virus. This is somewhat debated due to the fact that reploids were going maverick before Zero was known to have begun opperating. The reploid leader of the Maverick Hunters, Sigma, was infected by the maverick virus when he fought with Zero. Due to Sigma going maverick, the threat of the mavericks rose dramatically

There are many variants of the maverick virus:

Maverick Virus- The first form of the virus that was discovered. Makes up the majority of the virus.

Sigma Virus- apparently the fusion of the maverick virus with the programming of the reploid Sigma. Due to this condition, Sigma has the ability to infest other reploids and can not be defeated by normal means.

Colony Virus- A part of the code of the maverick virus that was contained on the space colony Eurasia. Released by the mercenary reploid Dynamo and Sigma when they attacked the Eurasia colony.

Zero Virus- The original form of the virus, formed by the fusion of the maverick and colony viruses together. Most potent form of the virus.
