:2 Liberal member Athol Townley died on December 24, 1963; Liberal candidate Adrian Gibson won the resulting by-election on February 15, 1964. :3 Liberal member Alexander Downer resigned on April 23, 1964; Liberal candidate Geoff Giles won the resulting by-election on June 20. :4 Liberal member Sir Garfield Barwick resigned on April 24, 1964; Liberal candidate Nigel Bowen won the resulting by-election on June 20. :5 Liberal member Roger Dean resigned on September 30, 1964; Liberal candidate William Bridges-Maxwell won the resulting by-election on December 5. :6 Country Party member Hugh Roberton resigned on January 21, 1965; Country Party candidate Adam Armstrong won the resulting by-election on February 27. :7 Country Party member George Shaw died on January 9, 1966; ALP candidate Dr Rex Patterson won the resulting by-election on February 26. :8 The member for Batman, Sam Benson, was expelled from the Australian Labor Party in September 1966 over his support for the Vietnam War. He served out his term as an independent.
