- 1 Liberal member Hubert Opperman resigned on June 10, 1967; ALP candidate Gordon Scholes won the resulting by-election on July 22.
:2 ALP member George Gray died on August 2, 1967; ALP candidate Dr Doug Everingham won the resulting by-election on September 30. :3 Liberal Prime Minister Harold Holt was presumed dead on December 19, 1967, after disappearing two days before while swimming at Portsea; Liberal candidate John Gorton won the resulting by-election on February 24. :4 The members for the Division of Northern Territory and Division of Australian Capital Territory could only vote on matters relating to their respective territories until 1978, when they were granted full voting rights. :5 Liberal member Paul Hasluck resigned on February 10, 1969; Liberal candidate Victor Garland won the resulting by-election on April 19. :6 ALP member Noel Beaton resigned on April 9, 1969; ALP candidate David Kennedy won the resulting by-election on June 7. :7 Country Party member Ian Allan resigned on April 30, 1969; Country Party candidate Ralph Hunt won the resulting by-election on June 7.
