Mercedes Bresso


Mercedes Bresso (born on 12 July 1944 in Sanremo, Imperia)
is a Italian politician and
president of the Piedmont Region. She is a member of the Democrats of the Left party.

She resigned, after her election as president of Piedmont, from the office as Member of European Parliament.

    Career

  • since 1973: University professor of economic institutions at the Polytechnic of Turin - Faculty of Engineering
  • since 1989: Member of the provincial, regional and national party executives of the Democratici di Sinistra
  • 1995-2004: Chairman of Turin Provincial Council
  • 1994-1995: Member of Regional Council (1985-1995) and Member of Regional Executive with responsibility for regional planning in Piedmont
  • 1998-2004: Member of the Committee of the Regions and its Bureau
  • since 2002: Italian Vice-Chairman of AICCRE
  • 2000-2004: Chairman of the World Federation of United Cities
  • 2004-2005: Founding Chairman of the Organisation 'Cités et Gouvernements locaux Unis'
  • since 2005: President of the Piedmont Region
  • Grand Officer of the Republic
