Metropolitan Life Insurance Company

MetLife, Inc. . The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company or MetLife for short was founded on March 24, 1868.

In 1991, when Pan American World Airways (PanAm) went out of business, the company purchased their building, renaming it the MetLife Building. The company also had offices on the 89th floor of One World Trade Center in the North Tower. MetLife is currently headquartered in the Met Life Tower, located at 1 Madison Avenue, New York City. They own space in at least 30 buildings in the US and 1 proposed building in Mexico.

The company's mascot is Snoopy, from the Peanuts comic strip.

    Metlife received a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index released by the Human Rights Campaign starting in 2003, the second year of the report. In addition, the company was named one of the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers in 2004 by Working Mothers magazine.
