Min'yo
Minyo is traditional Japanese music which is a form of trade music or labor music, sung between work or for specific jobs. Minyo is distinct depending on the area of Japan, often a rougher, courser variety is found in the Northern prefectures of Hokkaido, or Aomori; while a softer more fluid form is found in middle to southern Japan. Southern Japan (especially Okinawa) has even more distinct music. Okinawa has a different genre altogether called Eisa. Eisa is similar to Minyo, but among Japanese minyo it is very distinct, and often very different.
