MSV Duisburg


MSV Duisburg is a German football team based in Duisburg. The sports club was founded in 1902 as 'Meidericher Spielverein von 1902 e.V.' MSV Duisburg is one of the 16 clubs that constituted the German Bundesliga in 1963. They finished the first season of the league in second position. The team played the German Cup Final three times but never won. In the 1977/1978 season they played the UEFA Cup and reached the semi-final. After 19 years in the First Bundesliga, the team was relegated in 1982 and started playing the Second Bundesliga until relegation back to a regional divison, where they played from 1986 to 1989. In 1991 they made it back into the first Bundesliga, only to get back into the second a year later and to be promoted again the year after. Since 2000 they have been playing again the Second Bundesliga. They have done well in the current season and finished first before the winter break.
