Mumbles Lighthouse

Mumbles Lighthouse

Mumbles Lighthouse (circa 1794) is located in Mumbles, near Swansea. The structure is clearly visible (on the outer of two islands off Mumbles Head) from any point along the five mile sweep of Swansea Bay. Along with the nearby lifeboat station, is the most photographed landmark in the village.

The lighthouse originally carried coal-fired lights, which were replaced by an oil-fired lantern, and it has been subject to further upgrades of the lantern and mechanism.

The building was surrounded by a fort in the 1860s.
